Frequently asked questions
Q. Do I need any previous experience?
No. The course is suitable for beginners, refreshers and those looking for a career change. You will need a good understanding of English language to carry you through your studies.
Q: Do I have to attend any classes?
A. The five compulsory modules are studied entirely by distance learning. This means at your own pace and in your own time. However, if you wish to practice professionally, vital practical training is required in order to be eligible for insurance. This insurance cover is essential in protecting the interests of both make-up artist and the public. We provide one day practical workshops at our training studio in Portsmouth in Hampshire (additional fee involved). Attendance to module six practical training is optional and depends whether you wish to practice in a professional capacity or to learn purely for personal use. Details in your course pack.
Q: Do I have to sit an exam?
A: No. Certificates are issued based upon your coursework and (optional) practical training.
Q. What does my coursework involve?
A. You will need to complete a variety of papers throughout your course culminating in a Training Portfolio of evidence. This will range from multiple choice questions, design projects, small paragraph answers, tables, charts and practical make-up case studies, allowing you to put your new learned skills into practice. Photographic evidence is required for your case studies. You will not be required to answer or carry out anything that you will not have covered during your studies. All necessary paperwork will be forwarded to you with each module.
Q. How is my work assessed?
A. By continual assessment. There are five modules to complete. Once you have completed a module, you will send the relevant papers to your personal tutor for marking. This will be returned to you with feedback allowing you to monitor your progress.
Q. What qualification options do I have?
A. There are two study route options available to you.
